Did you know that your stomach starts to digest food before you’ve eaten it?
Why does this happen you ask?
It’s all part of a pretty sensible plan.
You see, the stomach is a hard-working organ, and needs plenty of preparation for each job it undertakes.
So, under the control of our nervous system, it gets lots of advance notice before we start to surround a tempting dish.
When we see or smell food that appeals to us, our mouths start to water. That’s part of the digestive process right there. In addition, our nerves transmit a message to the stomach, which pours out the necessary digestive juices.
After we have chewed and moistened our food, we started it through the alimentary canal with a good healthy swallow. Connecting muscles then move the food into the stomach. The failure of these little muscles to act properly is an important cause of constipation and is frequently result of interference with the nerve communications to these important muscle groups.
The complicated functioning of the digestive tract is carried on with our bodies without our being aware of it. Once the food is taken into the mouth (and we should use good judgment and eat healthy food when possible), the process of digestion is carried on without our voluntary control, by the living forces of the body. Also referred to as the "Innate Intelligence".
However, this operation of the internal machinery of the body is, as we have seen, under control of the Innate Intelligence which is carried out by master system of the body – the nervous system.
As we know, the internal apparatus and digestion frequently breaks down producing a number of unpleasant symptoms.
Research is showing that this usually occurs when the proper nerve connections are interfered with. Since the nerves governing digestion lead from the spinal column, it has been discovered by the Chiropractic profession that they may become, ” short circuited” at that point. Chiropractors recognize the short-circuited areas of the spinal column as "Vertebral Subluxations". It's the Chiropractor’s task to locate and remove “Vertebral Subluxations” so that normal function can occur.
