Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which a Chiropractor uses their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to the spine or extremity joint. The goal of this procedure, also known as spinal or joint manipulation, is to optimize the communication between the brain and the body, enhance spinal and joint alignment, improve motion, reduce pain and resolve joint inflammation and heighten your body's physical function and overall health. It has been a trusted form of treatment since the ancient Greek Hippocrates documented manipulative techniques in his writings back in 1500
Our office primarily utilizes gentle, low force instrument adjusting. We have found this method of Chiropractic adjusting to be highly effective in helping people regain their health with the least amount of force to the spine and surrounding structures. Secondly, we use what is commonly termed “Drop Table” adjusting technique, where the table provides an adjustment with the doctor’s hand assisting the force and without twisting and turning the spine.
Our office has extensive training in not only adjusting the spine, pelvis or skull, but also training in locating and adjusting problems in the extremities (shoulders, elbows, wrists (Carpal Tunnel), hips, knees, ankles, feet and jaw/TMJ). By restoring and maintaining proper joint alignment and function within the extremities, this approach can help to prevent common injuries from occurring.
Chiropractors treat problems in people of all ages. Depending on the patient, the intensity and force of treatments vary. All patients are screened to ensure that they are good candidates for Chiropractic care. For example, many older patients have some thinning or softening of the bones that would rule out certain types of adjusting.
Overall, Chiropractic adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level, to help you respond better to the stresses of everyday living and live out an active – healthy life.
