Sometimes,
it appears as if "stress" is the cause of all that ails us.
Stress is the most covered topic today in the health and fitness
category across all major media. After listening to and reading all
the information out there, one could conclude that stress is to blame
for nearly every health problem. Stress is the new smoking. Everyone
is talking about what it is and how we can get rid of it.
Feeling
physically ill? Stress. Not sleeping? Stress. Low sex drive? Stress.
Forgetting things? Stress. Feeling depressed? Stress. Eating,
drinking, smoking? Stress. Stress. Stress.
Is there such a
thing of good stress?
Not all stress is bad for you. Sometimes
stress can makes things happen, move forward, grow and develop. This
type of stress is called," eustress". The adrenaline rush
that an athlete gets before a sprint or the unexplainable strength
that enables people to escape tragic circumstances, are examples of
eustress.
Damaging Stress
Distress, on the other hand,
whether physical, chemical or emotional, can be extremely
destructive. Distress, is any influence that causes or leads to
malfunction and, therefore, is involved in all disease. When not
addressed properly, this type of stress can ruin one's mental,
emotional and physical health.
It is very true that stress can
make us ill, weaken our immune systems, make it hard to manage our
emotions, damage our relationships, cause us to drink, smoke and use
substances. Stress can accelerate aging, impair our memory, and keep
us awake at night. Stress causes mood swings, triggers anxiety,
depression, and anger. It interferes with energy levels,
concentration and our sex life.
It is true that millions of us
feel that stress is just something we have to live with and can't be
improved upon, we know this is not the case.
Stress does
certainly play a major role in overall health and well-being, but it
is the "context" in which
we must understand and define
stress, to effectively manage it.
Helping us adapt and
overcome stress requires conscious effort and lifestyle
changes.
Stress and Nerve Integrity
One consequence
from stress is what it does to the nervous system. Stress, whether
its physical, chemical or emotional has been associated with
triggering interference within the nervous system. Physical, chemical
and emotional stressors can overload the nervous system (like too
much voltage coming through your circuit breaker box tripping the
circuit breaker) causing vertebra to shift and lock on nerves, thus
interfering with vital messages transmitted through the nerves. When
vertebrae interfere with the brain's ability to properly communicate
to a particular body part, cells, tissues or organs will begin to
malfunction, resulting in an organic state of disorder, and eventual
disease. The term used to describe this interference caused by a bone
interfering with the transmission of nerve flow and causing bodily
malfunction is termed, " Vertebral Subluxation". Vertebral
Subluxations, caused by these stressors, have been associated with
many of the health conditions people suffer from every day. One of
several key components within the Core 4 To Wellness Lifestyle
Program is to help the body adapt and manage the effects of stress by
locating and reducing Vertebral Subluxations. This assists the body
in restoring nervous system integrity and manage stress related
effects on the body .

An argument with your significant other

traffic
• Your house catches on fire

difficulties

Advanced Stress Reduction: The Internal (HIDDEN) Stressors
Besides the external stress we experience every day, there is
something called internal stress or what we call the HIDDEN
stressors. These include stress or dysfunction in relation to
Hormone, Immune, Digestion, Detoxification, Environmental, and
Nervous / Neurotransmitter systems.
Internal stressors and
dysfunctions are, for the most part, hidden and go overlooked, while
external stressors are easy to see and get the focus of our
attention. Yet, it is the hidden stressors that are at the root of
common health problems today.
Examples of internal stress:
•
parasitic infections
• nutrient deficiencies
• heavy metal
toxicity
• inflammation
• poor digestion, absorption, or
assimilation
• yeast overgrowth and biofilm
• hormonal
imbalances
